Autumn decoration in the kitchen

September stakes claim as the month holding the welcoming arm of fall: by far, the coziest and most comforting season. With trees longing through changes of colors and gliding cool breezes, it becomes paramount to infuse some of that warm fall charm into your home. There is hardly any other more appropriate room to start with than the kitchen! From subtle touches of the season to events held at the focal arena, here are 15 ideas and practical tips that will inspire you through the beautiful fall makeover of your kitchen.

1. Autumnal coffee corner

The first tip for fall kitchen decoration is something I did for the first time this year: a fall coffee station on the counter. We have a small kitchen with little counter space so I don’t have much room for it. That’s why I chose a narrow tray from Gusta . On it are my pumpkin mugs from Anthropologie . And I put Monin coffee syrups in glass bottles with a pump from Dille & Kamille . I ordered special gold pumps via Ali, but they are not available yet. So until then, the black ones will do for a while.

2. Pumpkins & Gourds

I love nature in my decoration anyway (for all seasons by the way). But in the kitchen ‘edible’ decoration is of course completely in its place. Starting with pumpkins & gourds. Real pumpkins, from the supermarket or picked yourself from a pumpkin patch. Or for example dried gourds, those are also fantastic. And of course there are also beautiful artificial pumpkins for sale in the shops and garden centres. Fake or real: place them on a tray or shelf like that or – one of my favorite decorating tips – put them on a pedestal! A cake stand is perfect for that. I have already decorated my kitchen for fall (end of August), but without real, fresh pumpkins for now. But there is a good chance that I will redecorate the kitchen again this season and add pumpkins!

3. Dried wheat & corn

What I also find super fun in the kitchen as decoration is dried wheat or dried corn. You can tie wheat together in a bunch and put it down like that. Or you put it in some foam in a terracotta pot, super simple & fun! You can buy dried corn in the fall at the garden center or at a pumpkin farm (such as pumpkin farm Onderdijk).

4. Autumn fruits & vegetables

And of course, certain types of fruit and vegetables are also perfect for use in your autumn decoration in the kitchen. My favourite is the pear. You can put down a bowl of real pears (you have to eat them before they get overripe). You can make pears yourself from a lamp . And Loberon also sells these beautiful autumnal artificial pears , which always keep. Mandarins or apples are also perfect. I also think a bowl of artichoke hearts is beautiful as decoration. And what about onions or garlic!?

5. leaves (real or artificial)

Autumn = autumn leaves! This is a must-have in your kitchen. This year I filled a cutlery basket with some artificial autumn branches to create a kind of ‘autumn tree’. Here and there on the shelves are some loose autumn leaves, as if they have fallen from the tree! Of course, you can also work with real autumn leaves, as soon as they can be found on the ground again.

6. Garlands with autumn leaves

In addition to branches with autumn leaves or loose autumn leaves in your decoration, garlands (or: streamers) of autumn leaves are also perfect as autumn decoration for the kitchen. For example, hang them on the window or drape the garland behind your hob. There are also beautiful artificial hanging plants for sale. You can put them in a pot or basket and put them on your kitchen cabinets. In this blog you will find a number of beautiful garlands with autumn leaves.

7. LED candles & ‘autumn’ lights

I think that lights are not just for the Christmas period, but are also allowed when it gets dark earlier! That is why I also like to use battery-powered wire lighting in my kitchen or beautifully flickering LED candles between the dishes in my china cabinet. That immediately creates such a cozy atmosphere!

8. Scented candle for autumn

Of course, a scented candle for fall is a must. Put it on the counter, or on your kitchen island (if you have one). And in the kitchen I would go for a candle that smells nice and edible, if you know what I mean. My favorite new scented candle of 2022 is the Pumpkin Praline from Woodwick, it is really soooo deliciously sweet and pumpkiny. Yummie!

10. Autumn kitchen textiles

Towels, tea towels, cloth napkins… textiles create a lot of atmosphere and of course belong in a kitchen! There are all kinds of cool kitchen towels for sale online with autumn patterns. But of course you can also keep it very simple and just go for kitchen textiles in autumn colours, deep orange or rust brown for example.

11. Autumn mugs in your decoration

I have several autumn mugs at home. Of course, they are perfectly suitable to use as autumn decoration in your kitchen. For example, put them in your coffee corner, if you make one like me. Or put them on a shelf above your counter. You can fill them with something, such as dried poppies or a (broken) branch of ball chrysanthemum in some water. Always nice!

12. Wooden mushrooms

I have several wooden mushrooms in my house and put them everywhere in my autumn interior. I ordered some a few years ago from Floristik24, a German webshop where they sell all kinds of autumn decorations. And others come from the garden center, because you can often find nice mushrooms there too!

13. Vase with autumn bouquet on the counter

Unfortunately, I don’t have the space for it myself, so I always make atmospheric autumn bouquets for the table and on my cabinets. But if I had a nice kitchen island or an empty corner on my counter where I wanted to add autumn atmosphere, I would definitely put down a beautiful bouquet. With, for example, autumn leaves, lanterns, dahlias, sunflowers and artichokes in it. Love it!

14. Autumn decoration plate

Number fourteen in the list of fall decoration ideas for the kitchen, is an autumnal decoration plate. This first one with a classic drawing of pears is from Loberon , which I personally find very beautiful. In any case, the Loberon collection is always super fun for seasonal decoration and the quality is usually very good.

But there are many more decorative plates to be found. The plate in the photo below is for sale via Amazon . It says Pumpkin Patch and I think it is a super atmospheric plate to put on the counter, to put on a shelf or to hang on the wall or tiles with a removable hook (command hook or tesa adhesive hook).

15. Autumn tableware

We already briefly talked about autumn mugs, but of course there is much more fun autumn tableware for sale. Especially nice bowls and pots. Like this teapot from Next . And this beautiful pumpkin bowl with lid , also from Next. These kinds of items are great to put in sight in the autumn. The rest of the year you just keep them in a kitchen cupboard!
